| Excerpt for the Vermilion Parish Police Jury Minutes Volume7 Page 458 5 July, 1933 ................................................................. Resolution Lafayette & Vermilion On Motion by Sidney McDonald and duly seconded by Fils Gary the following resolution was adopted. Desiring to definitely locate, on the ground the division line between Lafayette and Vermilion Parishes, from Granger's Coulee, near Maurice, La. to Indian coulee, as described by Act of Louisiana Legislature of 1844 creating the Parish of Vermilion, the Police Jury of Vermilion employed Mr. Merill Bernard, Civil Engineer, of Crowley, La. to represent this Parish and requested Lafayette Parish to appoint its representative to make with Mr. Bernard a joint survey of the division line. The place and time of meeting was set and after waiting at such place of meeting on the day set, and also the day following for the representative from Lafayette to appear, no one appeared to represent the Parish of Lafayette and Mr. Bernard proceeded to establish the division line between the two parishes, the results of his survey are filed with the Clerk of Court of the Parish of Vermilion, La. which survey shows approximately 900 acres of lands assessed in Lafayette Parish which should be assessed in Vermilion Parish. Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Police Jury of Vermilion Parish, La., in regular session assembled, this 5th day of July 1933, that we request the Parish of Lafayette to erase from its assessment rolls those lands in Vermilion Parish, as shown on the accompanying plat of the survey of the division line between the two parishes. On Motion made by E.E. Broussard and duly seconded by Ovey Hebert, that a committee of not less than three including the President be appointed to appear and present the above resolution to the Police Jury of Lafayette Parish, at their next regular meeting, committee appointed are, R.L. Chauvier, as Chairman, Sidney McDonald and Eli Duhon. ....................................... Research Notes: Police Jury Records for Lafayette Parish were researched through 1941 and there was never any mention of Vermilion presenting this Resolution, Lafayette acknowledging said Resolution and certainly no agreement with the finding by Merril Bernard Engineers, Inc. It appears that Vermilion Parish did not ever attend a meeting with the Lafayette Parish Police Jury ever, for this purpose. |
