| Broussard vs, Duhon (A Very Breif History cont.) The Duhon's have continued to stay involved in their fight to show not only their residency, but the residency of others as well, After the loss in the initial law suit for her candidacy, Mr. and Mrs. Duhon, along with three other family members received a letter informing them their voter registration had been moved to Vermilion Parish and if they wished to vote in the upcoming presidential election (1999), when they arrived at the precinct in Vermilion Parish they would be recognized and summarily registered when they signed in. Only five people were affected by this action and the Attorney General's office sent the notice after they voting roles were closed. The Duhon's refused to vote in Vermilion Parish. The Duhon's are vigilant, honest, hardworking people and continue to battle to prove that this ruse is indeed an injustice. In 2003, Mrs. Duhon, who had moved her domicile into Lafayette Parish, ran again against Mr. Lenwood Broussard. Again she was showing great promise. At the 11th hour Mr. Broussard began a smear campaign intended to question Mrs. Duhon's candidacy. This time however he did not take it to court, which was his right, instead he sent out deflamitory flyers and delivered the mail by hand attaching the flyers to mail boxes. This is a violation in an of itself. In the end Mrs. Duhon lost a close election to Mr. Broussard. The research has continued. What can be found as a matter of record tells us she and her fellow residents continue to be pawns and subject to vindictive behavior. The boundary line of Lafayette and Vermilion in 1844 was clear, known by many and could have been proved by officials. My research show this. Now the election is over. Mrs. Duhon lost her bid for Councilwoman, and that is that. The votes were counted and she didn't have as many as her apponent. She is not bitter about the election. It is no longer Lenwood Broussard vs. Linda Duhon. As we say in South Louisiana, Ca Fine' ! Today this issue is about what information was available to Lafayette and Vermilion Parish when the attempt to determine the TRUE boundary line. It is about procedure, and the laws governing the State of Louisiana, the Constitution and the Revised Statutes. It is about what the Legislature determined in 1844 and what should be done regarding the boundary lines. 8 |
